785. PYT(Pretty Young Thing)                            Michael Jackson
786. Its My Life                                                   Bon Jovi
787. Love Machine                                              Miracles
788. Woman Woman                                           Gary Puckett and the Union Gap
789. 19th Nervous Breakdown                            Rolling Stones
790. For Your Love                                             Yardbirds
791. Takin' Care of Business                                Bachman Turner Overdrive
792. What You Need                                           INXS
793. Strange Way                                                 Firefall
794. Manic Monday                                             Bangels
795. FM                                                               Steely Dan
796. Everybody Plays the Fool                              Main Ingredient
797. Boogie Oogie Oogie                                      A Taste of Honey
798. We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet                               Blues Magoos
799. Suite Judy Blue Eyes                                      Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
800. I Got You Babe                                             Sonny and Cher

The Bangels hit Billboard's Top 100 12 times from 1986-1996 including two #1 hits--Walk Like an Egyptian and Eternal Flame. This is the first of three Bangels songs on my list and was written by Prince. For most of their career the band has been Susanna Hoffs, the Peterson sisters(Debbie and Vicki) and Michael Steel but is now just the first three. A new album, "Sweetheart of the Sun" is due out September 27th.

The Main Ingredient hit the Top 100 11 times from 1970-75 and Everybody Plays the Fool was their highest charting hit, peaking at #3. It is the first of 4 songs by Main Ingredient on my list however. After 5 minor hits in 1970-71 lead singer Donald McPherson died unexpectedly and Cuba Gooding joined the group as lead and the band enjoyed a good run from through 1975. Not long later the band broke up. The band has gotten together a couple of times since and Gooding has attempted solo efforts. Original member Tony Silvester died in 2006 and I don't believe the band is currently active.

We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet was the only big hit by the Bronx-based Blues Magoos and it peaked at #5 on Billboard in December 1966. They had 4 minor hits--none of which made the Top 40. The band is credited with being in the forefront of the psychedelic music trend. The band broke up in 1968. Lead singer Peppy Castro and the rest of the band went their separate ways--neither meeting with any success. Castro charted again in 1981 with the group Balance with "Breaking Away". Three original members inclusing Castro reunited for two concerts in 2008-2009.

A Taste of Honey was a four person band founded by Perry Kibble and Donald Johnson and included Janice Johnson and Hazel Payne. Boogie Oogie Oogie topped the charts for 3 weeks in 1978. The band had three additional Top 100 hits from 1979-82 including the #3 smash Sukiyaki but in 1980 Johnson and Payne reformed the group as a duo. Johnson and Payne reunited in 2004 for a PBS special in New Jersey which I saw. KC and the Sunshine Band was the lead attraction. The bands websight only talks of Janice Johnson and there is nothing listed since 2008.

811 Seven Rooms of Gloom                                        Four Tops
812 All Out of Love                                                    Air Supply
813 All the Things She Said                                         Simple Minds
814 Sock It to Me Baby                                             Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels
815 Turn Turn Turn                                                     Byrds
816 Cherry Cherry                                                     Neal Diamond
817 Peace Train                                                         Cat Stevens
818 Get Dancin'                                                          Disco Tex & the Sex-O-Lettes
819 Truckin                                                                Grateful Dead
820 Keep On Lovin' You                                            REO Speedwagon
821 Keep On Rockin' in the Free World                     Neil Young
822 Tumblin' Dice                                                       Rolling Stones
823 Dancin' in the Dark                                              Bruce Springsteen
824 Alone Again Naturally                                          Gilbert O'Sullivan
825 Dream On                                                           Aerosmith

The Classics IV had 5 Top 40 hits from 1968-73 of which Spooky was the second biggest(after Traces). It is the first of 3 Classivs IV songs on my survey. The band was fronted by Dennis Yost who many credit with being the originator of southern soft rock. Yost suffered a brain tumor in 2006 and died in 2008. The band seems to have a vey limited tour schedule today.

Edwin Starr had 4 Top 4 hits of which the anti-Vietnam anthem War was the biggest--hitting #1 for three weeks in 1970.  Others include Agent Double-O-Soul, 25 Miles and Stop the War Now. The song was originally an album track by the Temptations. It is the first of two Edwin Starr songs on my survey. Starr moved to England in 1973 and mpassed away in 2003.

Mitch Ryder(born William Levise) and the Detroit Wheels burst onto the charts in 1966 and had six top 40 hits in 1966-67. Taking some dubious advice from producer Bob Crewe he left the Detroit Wheels at the end of 1967 and never charted again. Sock It to Me Baby which peaked at #6 was banned from some radio stations for sexually suggestive lyrics. Devil with a Blue Dress On was their biggest hit and their first hit, Jenny Take a Ride was released as a single on the advice of  Keith Richard and Brian Jones. Mitch tried touring for some time but I cannot find a record of him touring today.

Gilbert  O'Sullivan had 5 Topt 40 hits including the Blockbuster #1 hit Alone Again Naturally which spend 6 weeks ay #1 in 1972. It is his only song on my survey. Gilbert just released an album in 2011 and has an active international touring schedule.

Disco-Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes was a band fronted by Sir Monti Rock III (Joseph Montanez) who prior to this was a talk show regular. The disco hit peaked at #10 in 1974. It was one of two hits by the band and the only one to zappear in my survey.

847. Goin' Up in Smoke                                                   Eddie Kendricks
848.. My Happy Ending                                                   Avril Lavigne
849. If You Don't Know Me By Now                              Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
850. One Night in Bangkok                                              Murray Head

Kings is the 23rd highest ranking song(of 30) by my favorite band of all time--Steely Dan. Once again Steely Dan's upcoming tour will have them performing an entire album and other hits and their first album "Can't Buy a Thrill" which includes Kings, Reelin' in the Years and Do It Again will be performed. I will be going. Now is Kings about Richard the Lionhearter and King John of Magna Carta fame or Nixon and Kennedy?? hmmmm.

Blood, Sweat and Tears has had over 130 people in the band over the years. Its most famous member is David Clayton Thomas and even he is not a founding member. It had three songs hit #2--You Made Me So Very Happy(the only BS&T song to hit my list), Spinning Wheel and And When I Die. Under founding member Bob Columby, the band still tours--recently with Chuck Negron of 3 Dog Night fame. I saw them at St. Lawrence Univ. in 1972 and they refused to play Spinning Wheel and called it a dumb, meaningless song.

I Started a Joke is the second of 6 Bee Gees songs on my list. With 49 Top 100 songs, the Bee Gees(Brothers Gibb) habe to be considered among the greatest bands of all time. They had 8 number one songs--mostly from the Disco era and many from Saturday Night Live. Most of my favorite Bee Gees songs are from the 1960s with "I Gotta Get a Message to You" my favorite. The two surviving members of the Bee Gees occasionally perform today.

The Corrnelius Brothers & Sister Rose had 5 hits in 1971-73 and Treat Her Like a Lady(which peaked at #3) was their second biggest(Too Late to Turn Back Now hit #2 and is further up my survey. After the group broke up in 1976, Carter Cornelius joined a black Hebrew sect and adopted the name of Prince Gideon Israel. He died at age 43. Edward Cornelius became a born again Christian and a pastor. Rose still performs today.

Herman's Hermits formed in 1963 when lead singer Peter Noone was only 15. They had 19 hits including two#1 hits Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter(sung previously in a British TV play) and I'm Herry the 8th I Am(song in a music hall previously). The band didn't like either of these songs and didn't record either in England. Peter Noone left the band in 1971 and still tours today. A competing Herman's Hermits band also tours(mainly in Europe) led by one of its founding members. There continues to be controversy around the group as to how many of their songs employed session museums. Jimmy Page played on at least a couple I believe including this song Silhouettes. This is the 2nd of 6 HH sonhs on my list--the highest being No Milk Today.

Born Stan Georgiou, Cat Stevens had 14 Top 100 hits. His biggest hits wer Morning Has Broken(#6 on Billboard Hot 100), Another Saturday Night(#6) and Peace Train(#7). Wild World is the first of two hits by Cat Stevens on my list. In 1977, Cat converted to Islam and took name Yusuf Islam and dedicated himself to various eductional and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community and has been give several awards for promoting peace. He has begun recording again under the name Yusuf and released his latest album in 2009.

Ray Stevens is a 72-year old country-novelty singer who has an amazing 28 Top 100 songs led by the #1 smashes The Streak and Everything is Beautiful. The only song of his to make my survey is the more serious Mr. Businessman which peaked at #28 on Billboard. Ray is extremely active today and somewhat controvertial recording "God Save Arizona" and playing at various Tea Party rallies and conservative causes. He is also in the process of recording and releasing the Encyclopedia of Musical Comedy Recordings--a 100-song collection.

The James Gang had four songs on Billboards Top 100 from 1970-1976 and has three songs on my survey of which the highest rated is Walk Away. The band was led in its most popular years by Joe Walsh who later went on to join the Eagles. Band member Glen Schwartz founded Pacific Gas and Electric(Are You Ready?) and guitarist Dominic Troiano later joined Guess Who.

(Harry) Nilsson had 10 Top 100 Hits of which the #1 smash Without You was the biggest. This is the first of three hits of his on my survey--the others being Without You and Everybody's Talkin'. Nilsson died of heart failure in 1994 at age 53.
